What Happened
I doubt anyone’s been losing sleep over why I suddenly stopped posting a couple of months ago—but just in case, I figured I’d share an update. Especially since, as of now, I don’t plan on posting here again.
Back in mid-March, I found myself in an unexpected career crisis. My day job depended on a Federal contract that had been rock solid for years… until it wasn’t. Political shifts kicked off a chaotic six-week stretch where the contract was cancelled, then reinstated, then downsized, then cancelled again—this time for good.
I spent those weeks bouncing between writing justifications to save the contract and quietly panicking about what I’d do if I couldn’t. During all that, I simply didn’t have the time or focus to keep this Substack going. As much as I enjoyed it, The Ay-I Guy wasn’t generating income—and survival mode took over. I needed to focus on finding immediate work and figuring out what came next.
I’m still figuring that out.
As I’ve been rebuilding, I’ve had to take a hard look at how I spend my time. And the truth is, while I love exploring AI and how regular folks can use it to improve their lives, this Substack isn’t something I can keep investing in. At least, not right now.
To the 42 of you who subscribed—many of whom are personal friends—thank you. I know some of you signed up just to support me, even if you suspected this whole thing might eventually fizzle out. (You know my cycles by now: idea → obsession → burnout → repeat.) And still, you cheered me on. That means more than I can say.
For those of you who found your way here some other way, thank you too. I hope this space helped you look at AI a little differently—or at least gave you something to think about.
If you’re curious about what comes next, I do plan to keep writing—just elsewhere. I’ve started sketching out a new Substack focused on navigating reinvention in midlife, especially when reinvention isn’t optional. Think of it as career crisis meets creative therapy. If you want to follow along, feel free to message me and I’ll send the link once it’s live.
Thanks again for reading.
