Why The Ay-I Guy Exists
AI can feel intimidating—like it's only meant for tech gurus or Silicon Valley insiders. But here's the truth: AI isn't just for the experts; it's for you. Welcome to The Ay-I Guy, where we turn AI from something mysterious into a friendly helper for everyday life. Whether you're managing everyday chaos, fixing a car, or just planning dinner, AI can make it easier—and I'm here to show you how.
A Little Background
For the past 20 years, I’ve worked as a criminal justice and corrections consultant. I also worked in juvenile justice, mental health, and foster care in my home state of Kentucky. Throughout my career, I’ve focused on helping people in tough situations—often those that society overlooks. This focus on service has let me to this attempt to make AI accessible to everyone, especially those who may feel left out.
I come from a middle-class background—my dad worked for the federal government and my mom was a teacher. My family and I have built a stable, middle-class life, and I’m slowly learning how to use AI, but am in no way a tech guru. I hope what makes the Ay-I Guy valuable is that I’m coming from a place of curiosity, wanting to find practical ways to improve everyday life without needing to become an expert.
My Introduction to AI
A few months back, I worked on a project where a partner used AI to develop training programs. At first, I was skeptical about how this all worked, and I had a ton of questions about incorporating it into my work. How could AI understand what I wanted? How could it reliably create something useful? But over time, I was impressed by how AI helped my partner create high-quality projects quickly. At the same time, I was working on a certificate in data analysis, which made me curious about how AI could help me learn how to crunch data.
That curiosity led me down a path of learning. Does AI actually think? How does it communicate? What are its limits? As I immersed myself in AI education resources, I started to see how AI could help in my consulting work - but also in everyday life.
Making AI Accessible to Everyone
As I learned more about AI, I realized there was a pretty large gap in the available content. Most of it was for people wanting to start AI companies or use AI to grow their businesses. I wanted to see AI used for more than just making money—I wanted it to improve lives in simple but real ways.
I found inspiration in Dr. Jules White’s AI content on Coursera, which helped me understand AI well enough to think about teaching it to others. But I realized—do people really need to take a whole course just to learn how to use these tools in everyday life? The answer should be no. If you’re working a full-time job, raising a family, and trying to get by, you shouldn’t have to work so hard just to learn how AI can make your life a little easier. That’s where Ay-I Guy comes in.
What The Ay-I Guy Will Be
This platform is about simple, everyday uses of AI for regular people. You’ll find content here on how AI can help with meal planning, personal organization, managing family life, travel, self-improvement, home decor, car maintenance, and more. AI can help make things in your life more affordable, easier, and even fun.
My goal is to publish two long pieces each week, covering different parts of AI that can make your life better. If there’s something you’d like AI help with, just let me know—I’m always looking for new ideas. I want this space to be friendly, easy to understand, and fun. I’m still learning too, and I’ll do my best to share what I find in a way that’s useful without overwhelming you with technical talk. My greatest desire is for this space to be a community of folks who help each other learn how AI can be used in fun, creative, and exciting ways.
